"I wish things could have been different," said a young boy across the street. Wondering who it was, curiosity led me to Jake. Jake was a young boy who lived across the street, opposite my house, I asked him what had happened. No reply was given. Instead, he turned one hundred and eighty degrees and ran, not stopping for a second, all the way home.

That night, when the roads were empty, I crossed the road to Jake's house. I rang the bell. "Who's there?" shouted Jake. He opened the door and allowed me in reluctantly. Seeing that there were tears all over his cheeks and big, black round circles around his eyes, it was obvious that he had not been sleeping well. I sat in his armchair and looked around his house. He had beautiful paintings of dogs on the wall. He also had pictures laid out all over the fireplace. Soon Jake came out. "Thank you," he replied. I sat down beside him and chatted for a while and everything was going smoothly until I pointed out his tears.

He stood up, feeling embarrassed. He dashed to his bedroom and did not come out until forty-five minutes later. He finally, gave up hiding and came out. He was crying and hugged me, saying he was all alone and that no one was around. Soon, I managed to calm him down. We sat on the couch and he told me everything. It was horrible, like some death-defying experience.

"It happened about four days ago. The night was quiet and everything was normal, until Mum and Dad fought over the bills. They shouted for a long time before mum went berserk. She took the car keys and walked towards the car, which was parked outside. Dad followed her out, telling her how useless she was. I heard the commotion and dashed downstairs." Jake paused... He wiped his tears and continued. "My dog, Lucy, ran out and stood in the middle of the road. An oil tanker came by and the driver presseing the horn while shouting at Lucy. However, she did not move a muscle. I ran to grab Lucy and then someone pushed me. It was Dad! He was rolled over by that oil tanker and the driver lost control of the wheel, crashing into the back of the car with Mum inside." He could not go on. After that, I hugged him just like any father would and told him that he was no more alone.

The next day, I unpacked my luggage with my new son. I had just returned from Japan the previous day. Yes, my new son was Jake! I had decided to adopt him. Fifteen years after out fateful meeting, Jake eventually married and lived in his own house with his own family. Well, that'll be another story, which can be told if I ever have the chance.

This story had somehow impacted me. Even if a child has no parents, Jesus will send a guardian angel to that child and protected that child always. In conclusion, there's always guardian angel beside you, protecting you and that's Jesus 'cause Jesus died for us and He's always the one that is looking after us even though we can't see Him, feel Him :)
